Tackling Extreme Weather: U.S. Company Launches New Product Resistant to High Winds and Heavy Rain
To meet the demand in North America for outdoor structures capable of withstanding extreme weather, ShelterLogic Group officially launched its STEELPEAK™ Series Carport under the Arrow Storage brand in February 2026. Manufactured in the United States, this product emphasizes “severe weather resistance” and aims to fill a market gap by offering structures that can endure high winds and heavy snow while maintaining residential aesthetics.
According to the company, the carport features an A-frame design with vertical roof panels, significantly enhancing water and snow drainage. It is engineered to withstand wind speeds of up to 110–115 mph and snow loads of 40 psf. Derek Raymond, Vice President of ShelterLogic Group, said, “We developed this product because we recognized that homeowners shouldn’t have to compromise between durability and design.” The carport comes with a comprehensive 10-year warranty and is primarily aimed at homeowners seeking low-maintenance, high-performance vehicle protection.
New Driver for Green Transition: PV-Integrated Carports Take the Spotlight
In the field of sustainable energy applications, steel-frame carports are playing an increasingly important role. A 3.2 million-square-foot solar carport is being built at the Kia Motors manufacturing plant in Georgia. Beyond protecting vehicles from weather damage such as hail, the project will become the largest “behind-the-meter” solar installation in Georgia, expected to generate 10 megawatts of clean electricity and offset approximately 10% of the plant’s annual electricity consumption.
Meanwhile, China has also seen innovative “PV+” applications. In early 2026, Shanxi Jinnan Steel Group completed a photovoltaic intelligent carport within its industrial park. The project integrates photovoltaic power generation, energy storage, and EV charging, forming a closed loop for clean energy “capture, storage, and utilization.” The carport’s steel structure uses low-carbon, green steel produced by the company itself, assembled with bolted connections for both efficiency and environmental friendliness. The total installed capacity is 83.82 kW, supported by 120 kW EV chargers and energy storage cabinets, achieving “self-generation, self-use, and surplus power dispatchability.”
In Europe, French solar tile manufacturer SunStyle partnered with metal structure company Triangle Horizon to launch a visually appealing, context-sensitive solar carport designed for areas protected by urban planning regulations. The carport offers six configurations, ranging from Y-shaped columns to butterfly designs, with a powder-coated finish. The solar tiles come in black, terracotta, and gray, with transparent tiles under development—all aimed at enabling renewable energy use without disrupting historic landscapes. The product has already been installed at Google’s California campus and the France Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.
Market Trends: Multi-Functionality and Modular Design in Demand
Beyond heavy-duty and PV applications, the market is also showing a trend toward multifunctionality and convenience. For example, a Grezone portable carport being sold at Walmart features a steel frame with a waterproof, tear-resistant canopy. Priced at just $220, its sides can be rolled up to transform it into a gathering awning, demonstrating the flexibility of residential carports.
Moreover, from large-scale industrial projects to community facilities, the applications of steel-frame carports continue to expand. Sinopec Hainan Refining recently completed a tender for a steel-frame carport as part of its Phase II distributed PV project, indicating sustained demand from large industrial enterprises for standardized steel-frame carports. Meanwhile, different types of carports, such as membrane structures and steel-frame designs, are frequently appearing in community renovation projects—such as a recently announced membrane-structure carport project in a Dongtai City residential area.
