PV Mounting Market Overview: Soaring Demand, Intensifying Competition
2022-05-28
The booming global PV market in 2022 directly fueled explosive growth in the mounting system market.
China’s bidding scale surged: From January to August, PV mounting system tenders from Chinese project developers exceeded 35.5 GW, with State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC), PowerChina, and Datang Group leading the volume. By 2025, China’s total mounting system market is expected to reach RMB 117.7 billion.
Top players performed strongly: Jiangsu Guoqiang Xingsheng won a total of 7.05 GW of mounting system orders from Huadian, Huaneng, and SPIC, and its order intake in Q1 2022 alone exceeded 14 GW. Arctech, Trina Solar, and Antaisolar also ranked among the top, collectively dominating market share.
Cross‑industry integration accelerated: Attracted by huge market potential, companies from other sectors began to enter the PV mounting space.
*ST Zhongqian, originally a diving equipment manufacturer, increased its stake in Jiangsu Ruizhong Zhineng and announced a RMB 100 million investment in a PV tracking mounting production project in Baise, Guangxi. Its subsidiary also purchased land in Tongcheng, Anhui for RMB 5.94 million to produce tracking mounting systems.
Haibo Heavy Industry, a listed steel structure company, stated that it was actively expanding into PV mounting systems and other steel structure products to cultivate new growth drivers.
Technology Innovation: Intelligence and Diversification Go Hand in Hand
As market demands for higher power generation efficiency rise, mounting products – especially trackers – are becoming more intelligent and diverse.
Intelligent algorithms become a core competitive edge
Trina Solar launched its new generation “SuperTrack” intelligent tracking control system at Intersolar Europe in May 2022. Under diffuse radiation conditions (e.g., cloudy days), it delivers up to 3-8% additional energy yield compared to conventional tracking systems. In December, the technology was included in the China PV Industry Association’s “2022 PV Industry Innovation Achievement Catalog”, recognizing its technological leadership.
In December 2022, the “Test Method for Intelligent Tracking Performance of PV Trackers” drafted by Trina Solar was included in the revision plan of the China PV Industry Association – the first industry specification for intelligent tracking performance, marking the beginning of standardization.
New products for complex terrain emerge
Nextracker launched the “NX Horizon-XTR”, a new single‑axis tracker designed for undulating, sloped, and complex terrain. It significantly reduces land grading work, lowers environmental impact, and cuts construction costs.
Soltec supplied its SF7 single‑axis tracker for a 56 MW project in Oahu, Hawaii, which showed clear advantages on steep slopes and difficult terrain with limited space.
BIPV and application‑specific solutions
Antaisolar released a new BIPV product called “Taiyang Roof” in July, designed for commercial and industrial rooftops with 100% waterproofing and easy installation.
Grace Solar exhibited all‑aluminium carport and agrivoltaic mounting systems tailored for the Japanese market at PV EXPO in Japan. Its carport product became the first Chinese product to obtain Japanese JIS certification.
