Baowu Launches Global First Super Weather-Resistant Steel for Solar Mounting Frames, Breaking Green Development Bottlenecks
On April 10, 2023, Baowu Central Research Institute announced the global launch of independently developed super weather-resistant steel for solar mounting frame tie rods, marking a major breakthrough in the green upgrading of materials for the solar mounting frames industry. This product realizes the whole life cycle of no coating, no maintenance for tie rods in the photovoltaic industry, which not only empowers the "dual carbon" strategic goal, but also provides a Baowu solution for the photovoltaic industry to extend from "green manufacturing" to "green manufacturing".
It is understood that the annual demand for steel used in solar mounting frames in China has exceeded 500 million tons and is growing rapidly, along with the leapfrog development of the photovoltaic industry. Traditional tie rods for solar mounting frames mostly adopt low-grade steel cold-drawn and then hot-dip galvanized, which has the problems of long production process, serious pollution, thin galvanized layer, easy peeling, and high later maintenance cost, which has become a bottleneck restricting the development of the industry. The newly developed super weather-resistant steel by Baowu has completely independent intellectual property rights, which can meet the application requirements of no coating and no maintenance for the whole life cycle of photovoltaic projects, and the material toughness is increased by more than 150%, which will effectively reduce the construction and operation costs of photovoltaic projects and promote the sustainable development of the solar mounting frames industry.
Major Flexible Solar Mounting Frames Projects Settled in Yunnan, Breaking Through Extreme Environmental Application Difficulties
April 2023 witnessed the intensive landing of major flexible solar mounting frames projects in Yunnan, which effectively promoted the application of solar mounting frames in complex scenarios. On April 7, the bid winning result of Huaneng Yunnan Branch's 2023-2024 photovoltaic flexible mounting frames framework agreement procurement project was announced, with a bid winning price of 48.1674194 million yuan and a bid winning unit price of about 0.241 yuan/W, covering a total capacity of 200MW. This project will further promote the popularization and application of flexible solar mounting frames in large-scale photovoltaic bases and reduce the cost of photovoltaic power generation.
On April 26, the 250MW composite photovoltaic project in Sayong Mountain, Luquan, Yunnan, supported by Antaike flexible solar mounting frames, was advanced smoothly. This project is located at an altitude of more than 3000 meters, with a mountain slope of more than 35°, which is currently the photovoltaic project with the highest altitude and the largest slope in China. The flexible solar mounting frames adopted in the project have a net height of 6 meters and a column span of 45 meters, which not only greatly reduces land damage, but also improves power generation efficiency by accelerating panel heat dissipation. At the same time, it realizes the composite utilization of land, forming a development model of power generation on the top, grazing on the bottom and ecological tourism, which provides a valuable reference for the application of solar mounting frames in ecological composite photovoltaic projects.
Industry Demand Booms, Policy and Market Jointly Promote the Upgrade of Solar Mounting Frames
Driven by the continuous growth of global photovoltaic installed capacity, the market demand for solar mounting frames in April 2023 maintained a strong growth momentum. Data show that China's photovoltaic industry has ranked first in the world in terms of new installed capacity and cumulative installed capacity for many years, with the production scale of each link in the industrial chain accounting for more than 50% of the world. In 2023, the new photovoltaic installed capacity in China reached 87.41GW, of which distributed projects accounted for 58%, driving the surge in demand for lightweight aluminum solar mounting frames, and the order volume of mounting frame enterprises in East China increased by 35% year-on-year.
Policy support has further boosted the development of the solar mounting frames industry. At the national level, the "Action Plan for Innovative Development of Intelligent Photovoltaic Industry" clearly requires that the proportion of tracking solar mounting frames exceed 30% by 2025, and the Northwest Energy Regulatory Bureau has forced the adoption of the combination of double-sided modules and tracking solar mounting frames in the Qinghai UHV base project, reducing the levelized cost of electricity to 0.22 yuan/kWh. At the local level, various provinces and cities have issued relevant policies to support the development of the photovoltaic industry, which has indirectly driven the continuous growth of demand for solar mounting frames.
In terms of technological iteration, the industry is accelerating towards intelligence and lightweight. CITIC Bo's independently developed AI sun-tracking system has increased power generation efficiency by 7.2%, and Trina Solar's modular solar mounting frames have increased installation efficiency by 40%. The popularization of high-strength and corrosion-resistant materials such as aluminum-magnesium-zinc plated steel plates has extended the service life of solar mounting frames from 25 years to more than 30 years, while reducing the weight of a single system by 20%-25%, effectively reducing transportation and installation costs.
Industry Outlook: Technological Innovation and Global Layout Become Core Competitiveness
The positive dynamics in April 2023 have laid a solid foundation for the stable development of the solar mounting frames industry throughout the year. Industry insiders said that with the continuous advancement of the "dual carbon" strategy and the acceleration of the global energy transition, the solar mounting frames industry will usher in a broader development space. In the future, technological innovation will become the core driving force for the development of the industry, and the R&D and application of intelligent tracking systems, flexible solar mounting frames and green and environmentally friendly materials will become the key layout directions of enterprises.
At the same time, with the intensification of global market competition, leading enterprises in the solar mounting frames industry are accelerating their overseas layout. In 2023, the export volume of China's solar mounting frames increased by 42%, of which the Southeast Asian market accounted for 37%. Faced with the impact of international trade barriers, enterprises will further promote the optimization of production processes and the construction of overseas production bases to enhance their global competitiveness. It is expected that the global solar mounting frames industry will continue to maintain a steady growth trend, and will make greater contributions to the global energy transition and green development.
